About the county

Organized 1821

St. Francois County is governed by a three-member County Commission — a presiding commissioner and two district commissioners — alongside a set of independently elected offices. Farmington has been the county seat since 1822, the year after the county was organized.

Most offices are in the Courthouse Annex at 1 West Liberty Street; the Circuit Clerk and Prosecuting Attorney are in the courthouse itself, and the Sheriff and Coroner have their own buildings. See the office directory below for each office’s address and direct line.
